Really is the ultimate guide

This is a clear, comprehensive, and incredibly extensive guide to the Verbal portion of the GMAT. I couldn't believe how much information was in this book - a lot of these types of books are less than 50 pages, so I was pleasantly surprised. It really is the Ultimate Guide: it walks you through all of the possible questions, common mistakes, and it thoroughly explains each concept and gives numerous examples.
This is an excellent investment in your future. If you are even a tiny bit worried about the GMAT, you will not regret spending a tiny bit of money on this book. It will boost your confidence, and your score, much more than you'd expect.

A must-own

The Ultimate Guide to GMAT Verbal: Grammar and Sentence Correction is a must-own for anyone preparing for the GMAT. It covers a multitude of topics, starting with the basics and slowly but surely fleshing the information out with more knowledge and plenty of examples to enforce it, the answers always being explained in such ways that one can always understand the reasoning for it and perhaps what they need to work on and pay more attention to.
It starts out rather simple, explaining the bare bones of the English language, and those more advanced in the subject might find it a bit tiresome, but for non-native speakers and those who have always had a challenging time with this sort of thing, you’ll thank your luck stars you chose to buy this book.
There are tables and charts sprinkled through-out that highlight and point out key subjects and ideas, certain things that need to be remembered in order to do well on this section of the GMAT. And with plenty of advice and pointers, a couple of sections dedicated to “pitfalls” that one should be sure to avoid, this really is one of the best books I’ve read on the subject.
At times a crash course in the English language—covering everything from the basics to the advanced—at others an indispensable study guide and learning tool, this simply is a must-own for any non-native speaker of the language—and anyone, really, who could do with a better grasp of the intimate goings-on of the language and structure of it—hoping to do the best that they can on the Sentence Correction section of the GMAT.

Comprehensive and useful

The Ultimate Guide to GMAT Verbal: Grammar and Sentence Correction by Jay Stewart is a fully comprehensive resource for both ESL learners and native english speakers.
Stewart provides an impressive guide of essentials for good writing, detailing the concepts of purity, perspicuity, and precision, as well as including a breakdown of the english language that is concise and understandable. Explained in depth are the parts of language, from article to interjection and sentence classification.
The most useful sections for me were those focused on sentence correction, error detection by error type with examples and common grammatical errors. For instance, using words like “economic” and “economical” can be incredibly confusing for non-native speakers, and even words like “further” and “farther” often cause native speakers to stumble.
In the back of the book, there are a number of sample questions with answers and explanations that are seriously helpful and awesome. This is a highly recommended resource for the GMAT, but also for anyone that is putting words to paper.
