I love this book! I actually love the series.

When Lacey appeared as a character on True North, I wasn't sure I was going to like her until she took care of Kate when she had her little break down. Then, she could have been a problem in True Devotion but she wasn't.

Lacey Mosely likes to dress up, wear make up and wear expensive shoes. She has worked at the same store since she was a teenager. Her life is in Crowell, Montana and she is happy that way. Nevertheless, she does long for a love like her sister has. She has dated the Sheriff who used to be a QB but her heart has always belonged to just one man, Jake Holt.

Jake was the troubled teenager who moved to a new town. He was the one other teenagers steered clear of except for the cheerleader, prom queen Lacey. He was in love with her but the town had nothing but bad memories for him so he left as soon as he was old enough. He wanted to make something of his life. After years of hard work he is now a private pilot. Fate brings him back to the small town of Crowell and to his first love Lacey.

I can't tell you how much I loved this book. Lacey and Jack had a true connection. This was their needed second chance at happiness.

It was great seeing how the other characters lives were progressing too.

I'm going to miss these characters.

It’s a wonderful second chance romance, and one I’m already excited to read again. Fun, smart and adorable!

This is my absolute favorite book in the series thus far! Really! The give and take, push and pull… the sheer attraction between Lacey and Jake is simply phenomenal. True Divide is one of those books that leave you with a smile for the entirety of the read.

Lacey, I feel, isn’t sure about much except what she does. She loves her job and place in The Beauty Barn. She left town once, for college, but barely made it through the semester. She has resided to the fact this is kind of it for her.

A blast from the past, Jake, just showed up out of the blue; the clear blue sky that is. A pilot now, and the only guy Lacey ever really loved. His no nonsense, say-what’s-on-your-mind, straight talking, sexy self is back. The chemistry is stronger than ever.

It’s a wonderful second chance romance, and one I’m already excited to read again. Fun, smart and adorable!

Lacey Mosely loved Jake Holt back in their high school days. She was the popular cheerleader and he was the misfit. But she didn’t let that stop them from forming a relationship. He was the only one who ever really listened to her, and he was there when she needed him. The day of their graduation Jake left without a goodbye or any word at all. She was left heartbroken and confused by his disappearance and lack of contact.

Ten years later Lacey is still a resident of their hometown of Crowell with nothing to really call her own. The only thing in her life she really excels at and enjoys doing is working at The Beauty Barn. Her love life has been messy in the past and is currently nonexistent. Then one day, Jake comes into her life. This time he’s back as a different person. He’s nothing like she remembered physically or characteristically. Jake is now confident, blunt, and determined to reconnect with Lacey.

Now that Jake has a solid career he loves, he knows he can never permanently stay in the town that held him back.
But Lacey’s heart and soul is in Crowell and she can never imagine leaving.
The two have to make difficult decisions that’ll affect them both and determine their future as a couple.

All in all, this was my least favorite of the series. It wasn’t that it was terrible or poorly written, just didn’t have the same spark that the other two did.
I really loved seeing the way they reconnected. It wasn’t all make out sessions and lusty romps. There was a good majority of their reconnection that happened through emails and phone calls. I think that was a really important factor in their relationship, and always a good way to determine if the couple has lasting potential.
There was no doubt that Jake and Lacey had a strong connection and the chemistry was hot. I liked them as a couple, but it was more so Lacey’s character that didn’t appeal to me.

While Lacey was a relatable character, there were characteristics that really bothered me about her. She worried way too much about what others thought, she was quite insecure of herself altogether, and she overthought a lot of the time. For her age, she struck me as a bit fussy. The way she strung him along and gave up on him was also irritating.
Jake was a really sweet and dedicated man. He helped around the house as much as he could and enjoyed doing it and simply being there for Lacey. He was the most surprising character that won me over instantly.
The ending was a bit bland, especially since I was under the impression that this was the final book in the series. That being said, I wish there had at least been an epilogue to tie everything together.

This second chance romance about reconnecting with a high school sweetheart is humorous, emotional, and plenty sexy. A good book for fans of contemporary romance readers.

Helpful stuff, but not user friendly

The best thing about this book is its attempt to systematize the difficult and too-often mysticised craft of cross-examination. The worst thing about it is that the authors did not apply the level of thinking that they advocate for cross-examination to the design and content of the book, which is poorly organized, diffuse, and a general nuisance to deal with because of its pervasive shapelessness. It's well worth dealing with the demands of the book because it is the best thought-out discussion of cross-examination in print. ...if you can figure out what the authors are trying to say about how to organize a cross and get through their Rube Goldberg "system" of chapters and rules and topic cards and sequence-of-events charts and page preparations -- I eventually gave up on their explanations and started outlining the book in my own way, upon which the sloppy, ill-considered form stopped mattering and the book's powerful insights into the whole process became comprehensible. Ultimately, examining witnesses at trial is about understanding, eliciting, and explaining facts to people who have to decide where truth lies (so to speak). The authors here give more information about how to do this in more ways than anyone else. If you want to "get" what's in this book, you will have to work hard and deal with stupid obstacles to learning and recurrent barriers to clear communication. Get over it. That's a large part about what getting ready to deal with witnesses at trial is all about anyway. Might as well get the practice in a safe environment. The book seems to be written from the perspective of a primarily criminal-law oriented practice in a jurisidiction in which the lawyers have access to basically all the information that will be presented at trial. To me, a civil practice New York lawyer, that seems about as real as the Star Wars movies, but there's still a lot of value here. If you are new to this area of the law, this book is the best way to get a sense of what you can do with cross (at least until I write my book on the subject :-)) If you are experienced, it will give you ways to fine-tune your knowledge and skills. Either way, it will give you good training in patience and delayed gratification -- essential skills for a trial lawyer. If I got to break my rating down, I would give the book a (generous) two stars for accessibilty and a (conservative) five stars for concepts and information.

The third in crown Point Press's series on printmaking, this book does exactly what it says on the cover. Its meticulous, step-by-step approach means that even printmakers who are confident with aquatint will find it helpful. The book is like a Russian doll in its presentation of the technique-each chapter revealing a different aspect of the process. While it can sometimes seem a little short of illustrations, the excellent text more than compensates. The 'how to' descriptions are also richly supported by the masterful images that the author has chosen to exemplify particular effects. Many are the work of some very famous artists: Al Held, Ed Ruscha, Tony Cragg, Elaine De Kooning and Francesco Clemente among them. Crown Point Press is, after all, among the most celebrated of all American print studios. Whether you are a lover of aquatint or among those who have often found themselves frustrated by it, this is the book for you. About the Author
Master Printer Emily York came to Crown Point Press after training as a printer at Paulson Press, a printmaking press in Berkeley founded by two former Crown Point master printers. Emily was born in Napa, California and grew up in St. Helena, in the Napa Valley. She received her BA in art with an emphasis on printmaking from the University of California at Santa Cruz. She pursues her own artwork and crafts at home in Oakland, CA.

Thorough and complete

This is a wonderful reference book, absolutely worth every penny. I can't think of another book that goes into such precise and specific detail on aquatint, and the DVD is a helpful counterpart to the step by step instructions and beautiful, high quality illustrations. If you are serious about learning these techniques or want a reference this is an ideal choice.

This is the best printmaking book ever. I had to buy the chin colle book after I went through this one. This is crown point presses top selling book. This will get you through etching class and then some. I'm building steel facing tank from the information in this book. It teaches you everything.

The advantages of using linear algebra both in the teaching of differential equations and in the teaching of multivariate calculus are by now widely recognized. Several textbooks adopting this point of view are now available and have been widely adopted. Students completing the sophomore year now have a fair preliminary under­ standing of spaces of many dimensions. It should be apparent that courses on the junior level should draw upon and reinforce the concepts and skills learned during the previous year. Unfortunately, in differential geometry at least, this is usually not the case. Textbooks directed to students at this level generally restrict attention to 2-dimensional surfaces in 3-space rather than to surfaces of arbitrary dimension. Although most of the recent books do use linear algebra, it is only the algebra of ~3. The student's preliminary understanding of higher dimensions is not cultivated.

The only warning I will give is that this is a very dense and formal presentation of the subject, which is typical of several other advanced undergraduate and graduate level math textbooks I've come across.

Introduces differential geometry to advanced-calc students

As a math undergrad at Kent State University some twenty-odd years ago, I took a course in differential geometry. This was the text; I still have my copy. (Autographed by the author, in fact; I met him on a visit to his university, where I subsequently attended grad school.)
The title of this book states, accurately, that its subject matter is 'elementary topics _in_ differential geometry'. This is one of those 'transition' books that introduces students familiar with Subject A to a more-or-less-systematic smattering of elementary topics in Subject B. Here, Subject A is multivariate calculus and Subject B is, of course, differential geometry.
Since that's what this book is for, there are way more numbers and pictures in it than you'll ever see in a modern graduate-level differential geometry text. The idea is to show the student the geometric meaning behind all the advanced calculus and help him/her understand _both_ words in the name 'differential geometry'. In short, much of the motivation here is geometric.
I liked it a lot and I am still grateful for its highly accessible introduction to a fascinating field. However, I must also add that its approach is not representative of any graduate-level math course I ever took. Of course this is an undergraduate text and isn't supposed to represent graduate-level coursework. Nevertheless, it _may_ give a student the wrong idea about what to expect in more advanced treatments. (Is there some personal history lurking behind that remark? You guess.)
An excellent 'transitional' book, then, and highly recommended to readers who want to connect their knowledge of multivariate calculus to the geometry of Euclidean space. It's also a fine example of an expository work on mathematics that remembers its target audience. However, as other reviewers have commented, it needs some answers to the exercises in order to be really useful for self-study.

A good start

This book could be considered as the second semester of an advanced calculus course and serves as an excellent introduction to differential geometry. The approach is rigorous, but the author does employ a great deal of illustrations to explain the relevant concepts. The first five chapters cover vector fields on curves and surfaces. The many concrete examples given by the author illustrate effectively the normal and tangent vector fields. The Gauss map is then appropriately introduced in Chapter 6 and shown to be onto for compact, connnected, oriented n-dimensional surfaces in n+1-dimensional Euclidean space.
This is followed by a discussion of geodesics and parallel transport in the next two chapters. The important concept of holonomy is introduced in the exercises along with the Fermi derivative. These ideas are extremely important in physical applications and must be understood in depth if the reader is to go into areas such as general relativity and high energy physics.
The next chapter considers the local behavior of curvature on an n-surface via the Weingarten map. The important concept of the covariant derivative is introduced. The concept of a geodesic spray, so important in the theory of differential equations, is introduced in the exercises. The curvature of plane curves is treated in Chapter 10 with the circle of curvature introduced. The Frenet formulas, which relate the tangent and normal vectors to the curvature and torsion, are discussed in the exercises. The curvature of surfaces is discussed later in Chapter 12 with the first and second fundamental form introduced, along with the very important Gauss-Kronecker curvature. And in this chapter the author introduces the idea of local and global properties of an n-surface. Although not rigorous, the discussion is helpful for students first introduced to these concepts.
After a nice overview of convex surfaces, the parametrization of surfaces is discussed in the next two chapters, where the inverse function theorem for n-surfaces is proved. This is followed by a consideration of focal points with Jacobi fields discussed in the exercises.
More measure-theoretic concepts are discussed in the next chapter on surface area and volume. Partitions of unity are brought in so as to define the integral of an n-form over a compact oreinted n-surface. Exterior products of forms are introduced in the exercises.
Soap bubble enthusiasts will appreciate the discussion on minimial surfaces in Chapter 18. Although very short, the author's treatment does bring out the important ideas. Minimal surfaces have taken on particular important in the new membrane theories in high energy physics recently. This is followed by a detailed treatment of the exponential map in Chapter 19. Once again, techniques with a variational calculus flavor are used to characterize geodesics as shortest paths.
After a discussion of surfaces with boundary in Chapter 20 the Gauss-Bonnet theorem is proved in Chapter 21 using Stoke's theorem. The discussion of this important result is crystal clear and should prepare the reader for more advanced statements of it in the general context of differentiable manifolds. This is followed by a brief discussion of rigid motions and isometries in the next two chapters. The book ends with ta discussion of Riemannian geometry, a topic of upmost importance in physics and discussed here with care.
A very good book and one that will be useful to beginning students of differential geometry, and also physics students going into the areas of gravitational physics or high energy physics.
