The standard against which all other text books should be measured!

O.K. Let's face it: what could be more boring than Organic Chemistry - right? WRONG! Morrison and Boyd's Organic Chemistry takes the pallid and dry subject of Organic Chemistry and imbues it with a vitality and interest that will stupefy you. Trust me, you cannot begin to fathom how effective this book is at making its subject interesting and more importantly understandable. The authors are brilliant at introducing a complex and arcane topic, incrementally building slowly and confidently a framework of knowledge and information that nearly makes, of all things, intuitive sense when they are through.

Every educator should study Morrison and Boyd in an attempt to appreciate how it works its magic. I can say without reservation, this is the text book against which all others should be measured. You will not be disappointed.

Quite excellent, I loved this one

I am not a Chemistry major, however I found Morrison & Boyd interesting. I used this book in high school for about 50% percent of the Chemistry syllabus in high school related to organic chemistry. The style of the authors was refreshing, and I found it easy to read large sections in short periods. I also found it easy to recall a lot of points as the book was written in such a way as to lead you from one point to the other, which style is the best for organic chemistry.
Again, I used this book for a chemistry course in my freshman year, and I did not regret the decision. A wonderful book, it is a phenomenon in publishing.

Great text for organic chemistry

My undergraduate organic class used this book for its text. I found it to be surprisingly readable and made the difficult concepts easier to understand. Even though I am done with organic chem, this book will remain part of my permanent collection.

Gr 5-8-A stunning photo-essay about the life and work of Hurtado, an anthropologist who has been studying the Ach‚ people in Paraguay for 15 years. The well-organized, logical text intertwines the information about these hunter-gatherers and the changes in their society with insight into the anthropologist's methods of observation, data collection, and analysis. Unfamiliar terms are effortlessly explained. The large, full-color photographs sometimes fill an entire page and show individuals engaged in daily activities. There are also a couple of maps (without a scale or compass rose). Batten gently explains that there are many reasons for studying other cultures. Her respect for the work of Hurtado is evident as is her concern for the future of the Ach‚. This book is an excellent choice for booktalking and it will fill requests for assignment material on careers, women's history month, introductory anthropology, and the peoples of South America. Reluctant older readers will be enticed by the photos. Students who enjoy this title may also be interested in Joan Mark's Margaret Mead (Oxford, 2001), which offers a more complete life and education of a female anthropologist, and Jan Reynolds's Amazon Basin (Harcourt, 1993), a photo exploration of the life of the Yanomama people of the Amazon region.

Batten's graceful text covers basic science concepts (what an anthropologist really does; what evolutionary biology is) in accessible, clear language and examples just right for kids, offering fascinating hypotheses along the way. Hidden Worlds focuses on the work of Hawaii-based microscopist Dennis Kunkel. The text nicely illustrates how a scientist explores, discovers, and formulates questions. The stunning color photographs, provided by the scientists themselves, are the books' real strength. Huriado and Hill's shots bring the Ache's way of life up close, without sensationalizing, while kids will pore over Kunkel's magnified shots of a carpet flea, red blood cells, and more. MARVELLOUS INTRODUCTION TO ANTHROPOLOGY

This biography of the young Venezuelan anthropologist Magdalena Hurtado provides a very clear description of her fieldwork among one of the world's last foraging peoples, the Ache indians of Paraguay. This beautifully illustated book provides the best available introduction for young readers of what it is an anthropologist does. Although the publishers recommend the book for ages 9-12, my guess is that students in junior high and high school --perhaps especially young women -- will find the book both informative and inspirational.

Great book for kids and adults

I gave this book to my 3 yr old neice and 6 yr old nephew, and they were as fascinated by it as their mother and father were. The pictures are wonderful and the text really gives you the feel of what the lives of one of the last groups of hunter gatherers in the world are like. And it paints a detailed and fascinating picture of what it is like to be an anthropologist studying and loving a people whose lives are so different from our own. A really enjoyable book.

This book is not so good...

I am very sorry, but I am struggling to read this book. I am having the hardest time. I do not believe this book is well written. So many terms and buzzwords are seemingly thrown together using a computer in randomly generated order. I am very disappointed so far and have not made it past the first two chapters. If you are an instructor trying to decide what book to use for your class, take my humble student opinion and avoid this book at all cost.

Are you kidding me? First off, this book is way over priced for the information provided. Many of the repetitive information can be cut down and still manage a successful project. Overkill critical thinking which in my opinion can lead to wasted time and money.

This book is informative and educational with wonderful pictures. Although the topic suggests it will only be useful for those with architectural backgrounds, I found the book wasn't too specific with jargon and will inspire most.

Just a Little More....

I love this book despite its weight (literal, not literary). My greatest problem is that I want more information which of course means that I have to get off my butt and look for it which is no bad thing in itself.

As an overview of the 'iconic' or best-known houses of the 20th century it is fine; it includes most of the houses one would expect to see and some one would not have expected. The major omission to my mind is Frank Lloyd Wright - Falling Water is here of course, but none of the Usonian or Prairie houses.

Given these relatively minor gripes, I have found this book to be fascinating, especially to a reader who is passionately interested in residential architecture.

He has a degree in Physics and a PhD in Radio Astronomy from the University of Cambridge and 20 years’ experience in scientific and technical consultancy, telecommunications and training.

Comprehensive and easy read intro to LTE.

I only read the first chapter and browsed the rest. It covers most concepts of LTE and it seems to explain how protocols and methods work in enough detail for an engineer who has basic communications knowledge. There are a few charts would be better understandable with color use instead of grey scale.

Very good book for entry level Physical Design Engineers

Book is very good starting point for ASIC backend engineers - with good and short introduction and than right on to the target.
However there is no substitute for practice so after reading the book , my advice is to jump start to some simple to medium complex projects.

This is a good intro - like the title says these are the essentials. This is a great overview of methodology, but the real secrets to success in physical design are knowing how to write and debug scripts, especially perl, unix, c-shell.
